Fiona Hackshall, Wedding Cake Designer
Hello, I'm Fiona and I have been designing wedding cakes of all shapes and sizes for over the last twelve years. I didn't set out to be a cake designer. In fact, I trained to be a dental hygienist and therapist. In some ways you would be right to think that my career has taken a dramatic about turn, but there are some surprising similarities between the two professions.
When I was growing up I was always making something. I particularly liked drawing and painting. My Mum was often baking and entertaining so it was a natural progression to make edible art! I initially started creating birthday cakes for family members and friends and carried this on when I became a Mum myself. I really enjoyed coming up with fun designs for my boys birthdays.
It became known that I created cakes locally and soon my order books were filled with orders for all sorts of cakes. It wasn't long before I decided I should create a business. I am mainly self taught but regularly attend courses to broaden my skills in all the latest techniques. With the business really taking off I now concentrate on my passion for creating wedding cakes.
I feel privileged to be part of a couples special day and I love turning their ideas into amazing designs.
